Zelienople Cop Attends DC Capitol Rally

Images of the officer attending the rally were shared, then deleted, on social media. It’s unclear if he participated in the attack on the Capitol.

A patrolman for the Zelienople Borough Police Department was part of the chaos around the US Capitol Wednesday, as thousands of supporters of President Donald Trump rallied in Washington, DC, and hundreds attacked the Capitol interrupting the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Officer Thomas Goldie was part of the initial rally, according to a public Facebook post shared by his wife; it is unclear if he participated in the attack on the Capitol.

In the now-deleted Facebook post, Goldie and his wife, Kelly Monteverde Goldie, are seen donning “Trump 2020” hats, and “F— Your Feelings” was emblazoned across the front of the officer’s hat.

Screenshots of the post began circulating Facebook Wednesday afternoon, with many people expressing outrage and calling for Goldie to be fired or resign. 

“He should be fired,” one commenter wrote. “He should never be given authority over others.”

Zelienople Borough Police Chief James A. Miller declined to discuss Goldie’s trip to Washington, but said the department has a formal complaint procedure. 

“The complaint has to be in writing, and it has to come to me,” he said. “If we get a complaint, we’ll address it the proper way.” 

Since the November election, Trump has falsely claimed the election was stolen from him, and dozens of Republican lawmakers have vowed for the past two months to contest the votes of state electors that confirm Joe Biden as the President-elect.

When the riots and attack began, Congress was in the midst of debating an objection to Arizona’s results. US Capitol Police placed the building on lockdown as domestic terrorists began smashing windows, and breaking into the House and Senate chambers and various Congressional offices. 

Zelienople Borough is in Butler County, north of Pittsburgh.
