Planned Parenthood Keystone is one of 20 affiliates of Planned Parenthood Federation of America who will receive a portion of an historic donation from the former wife of Amazon owner Jeff Bezos.

Planned Parenthood Keystone has received an historic donation of $7.5 million from philanthropist and novelist MacKenzie Scott

Scott, the former wife of Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, donated $275 million to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the organization’s national office, and 20 Planned Parenthood affiliates, including Planned Parenthood Keystone. It is the largest gift from a single donor in Planned Parenthood’s history.

“We are over the moon about this course-changing and transformative gift,” Melissa Reed, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Keystone, said in a news release. “Her historic donation comes as we face the most serious attacks on abortion and sexual health care here in Pennsylvania and across the nation. This gift will eliminate major barriers to care and increase access throughout central and northeastern Pennsylvania.”

Last year more than 100 abortion restrictions were enacted across the country. While GOP lawmakers in Pennsylvania attempted to pass similar restrictions, Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf used his veto power to stop five anti-abortion bills from becoming law.

Reed said the money will be used to grow the organization’s Fund for Choice, which provides financial assistance to women for abortion services. It will also allow the organization to use emerging technology and advances in medicine to provide care more equitably, she said.

Planned Parenthood Keystone provides services to over 26,000 patients annually and has nine health centers throughout their service area.
