Donald Trump on Monday suggested he would be open to cutting Social Security and Medicare, which tens of millions of American seniors rely on.
During an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Trump was asked how he’d address long-term funding issues for Social Security.
“So first of all, there is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting,” Trump answered. “And in terms of, also, the theft and the bad management of entitlements — tremendous bad management of entitlements — there’s tremendous amounts of things and numbers of things you can do.”
President Biden has made clear he wants to address any long-term solvency issues by raising taxes on the wealthy, instead of cutting benefits.
“If anyone here tries to cut Social Security or Medicare or raise the retirement age, I will stop you,” Biden said during last week’s State of the Union address.
