President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act continues to bring union-paying jobs to the Mon Valley. Close to 1,000 jobs are coming to Western Pennsylvania to help produce batteries with materials sourced in the US.
Close to 1,000 union-paying jobs are coming to the Mon Valley in Western Pennsylvania thanks to investments from the Inflation Reduction Act.
US Sen. Bob Casey (D-Penn.) announced last week that Eos Energy Enterprises secured a $303.5 million loan through the US Department of Energy to help build and produce next-generation battery systems at its Turtle Creek facility.
“Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, we are making game-changing investments in energy technology manufacturing to ensure that Pennsylvania can continue to power our Nation,” Casey said in a statement.
“I fought for this investment because it will create union jobs and help Mon Valley workers lead the way on clean energy storage production. This project is not only an investment in the technology of tomorrow, but in Pennsylvania workers.”
The investments will help create up to 1,000 manufacturing jobs, which will be represented by the United Steelworkers and help finance the construction of two state-of-the-art production lines that will produce enough batteries to power 130,000 homes annually.
According to a press release by the DOE, Eos expects to source all of their materials for battery production from the United States. The batteries are made with zinc-bromide and will help insulate the company from supply chain risks.
“The Biden-Harris Administration has successfully implemented a new economic playbook that has boosted America’s competitive standing on the world stage as an innovation leader in the cutting-edge technologies of the future,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennfier M. Granholm said in a statement.
