PA lawmakers celebrate passage of cannabis legalization bill

Democrats in the Pennsylvania House passed a historic recreational cannabis legalization bill this week by a 102-101 party line vote.

However, House Bill 1200 faces long odds in the Republican-controlled Pennsylvania Senate.

HB 1200 legalizes recreational cannabis use for adults over the age of 21 and it allows for the substance to be sold in state-owned stores.

The bill contains some public safety measures by placing a 25% limit on THC concentration sold in flower products, and limits the THC concentration to five milligrams per serving and 25 milligrams per package.

HB 1200 allows residents to grow two up to plants at a time in their homes.
This week’s vote marked the first time the state House has ever passed a cannabis legalization bill.
