Fans can enjoy unique Beaver Stadium experiences this week.
The home of Penn State football is being staged for ice hockey, for the first time ever, and the public is being invited to use the temporary rink, too.
There will be four public skating sessions in the stadium, where the men and women’s hockey teams will play on Friday and Saturday afternoons.
Penn State will host the hour-long sessions from Wednesday, Jan. 28 through Sunday Feb. 1. The cost is $30 per person (rental skates included). Fans can register here.
The public skating is a part of one of the busiest Penn State sporting weekends ever in State College, which includes 15 events. The highlight will be the Beaver Stadium hockey games for their women’s team (Friday, Jan. 30) and men’s team (Saturday, Jan. 31), both which are nationally ranked.
The women’s team plays Robert Morris, and the men’s team plays No. 2 Michigan State. Both games start at 1 p.m.
The men’s hockey team (18-6) is riding a seven-game win streak − its longest Big Ten streak in program history − into the weekend (The first game of its series will be 6 p.m. Friday at Pegula Ice Arena). The Nittany Lions are coming off a weekend sweep of No. 5 Wisconsin on the road.
The rest of the Penn State weekend includes the No. 1 wrestling team on Friday night in the Bryce Jordan Center, men’s basketball, indoor track, men’s volleyball, men’s tennis, men’s lacrosse and men’s gymnastics teams.
