President Donald Trump, is set to visit the state Thursday. Ahead of the trip, Trump stoked the conflict, tweeting that Pennsylvanians “want their freedom now.”
A spokesperson for Philadelphia's elections commission, Nick Custodio, said there was “no playbook for holding an election during a pandemic.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said there’s no “urgency” to pass another bill and that Republicans are “assessing what we’ve done already.”
Lawmakers also used public money to buy fancy furniture, have locks changed and reserve choice parking spots.
"I don't know how you stay safe and move quickly," Wolf said in response to a tweet from the president.
The normally mild-mannered Democrat fired back after several GOP-controlled counties declared themselves in open rebellion against his restrictions on businesses and movement.
The GOP lawmakers' strategy echoes earlier attempts in some states to curb the powers of Democratic governors. But this round comes with added health and political risk.
Specifically, the Jefferson County Republican lawmaker took issue with the Wolf administration's controversial coronavirus waiver process for businesses.
The new ad, titled “Mourning in America,” blasted Trump’s response to the coronavirus crisis and highlighted the devastating public health and economic toll of the pandemic.
