On Tuesday, the FBI seized Republican Congressman Scott Perry’s phone. The next day, the FBI served several subpoenas to Pennsylvania GOP state legislators. The actions appear to be linked to a probe into a scheme to install fake electors as part of Donald Trump’s plot to overturn his loss in the 2020 election.

“This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone,” the Pennsylvania Republican Scott Perry said in a statement issued through his office. “They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish.”

Given the fact that several government departments orchestrated mass deletion of texts and other records in the final days of the Trump administration and the days surrounding January 6th, Perry’s appeal to fair play rings hollow and any warning given by the FBI or other investigative bodies would be strategically silly.

While Perry is busy expressing his “outrage” over recent events, Pennsylvania state legislators are saying very little about who received subpoenas, or what those subpoenas seem to be about.

It appears that the subpoenas are connected to the investigation into Perry’s role in the fake electors scheme, in which he was a central player.

This should not be confused with Perry’s plan to install DOJ lightweight Jeffrey Clark as Attorney General. In that separate plot, Clark agreed to launch a number of fake “investigations” into the results of the 2020 election to aid Trump’s post-election coup attempt. Clark was introduced to Trump by Scott Perry, and this part of the coup attempt failed only when DOJ leadership threatened to resign en masse the moment Clark was installed.

While Perry’s multiple plots can be difficult to keep track of, it seems the FBI has its next steps planned out, and they don’t appear to be concerned about civility or making “arrangements” with those involved in the myriad of schemes to overturn a fair and accurate election in 2020.

And given the recent rash of deleted evidence by multiple high-level officials at several key agencies, all of it relevant to the attempted coup, the FBI’s lack of decorum seems warranted, even necessary.

And it’s making those involved in the schemes very, very nervous.
