DeSantis, Florida’s governor and a potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate, is coming to Pennsylvania to rally on behalf of fellow far-right Republican Doug Mastriano.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, fresh off of suspending a Democratic state attorney over his promise not to enforce the state’s 15-week abortion ban and support for gender transition treatments for minors, is coming to Pennsylvania to campaign for a like-minded far-right Republican, gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano.
DeSantis will join Mastriano for the Unite and Win rally, being held by the conservative student group affiliate Turning Point Action, at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh on August 19. Both DeSantis and Mastriano are scheduled to speak at the rally.
DeSantis is running for re-election for a second term in Florida but has been making fundraising trips and campaigning for candidates in other states, fueling speculation of a potential 2024 White House bid. He’s been cast as an alternative to Donald Trump, who has endorsed Mastriano and continues to make noise about another presidential run.
Besides campaigning for Mastriano, DeSantis is scheduled to join rallies to campaign for Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake, GOP US Senate nominees Blake Masters in Arizona, and JD Vance in Ohio, plus New Mexico gubernatorial nominee Mark Ronchetti, and US Representative Yvette Herrell of New Mexico.
In other Mastriano news, Politico reports that he is threatening to pull out of his upcoming interview with the Jan. 6 committee over concerns that information from his testimony will be leaked and used to influence the outcome of the midterm elections in Pennsylvania.
