9 Pennsylvania Billionaires Make Forbes’ List of Richest People in World

A Republican mega-donor, a candy heiress, and the owners of two Philly sports teams are among those repping the commonwealth on Forbes’ annual richest people rundown.

The world’s billionaires collectively are worth $12.2 trillion, according to Forbes’ annual list of the richest people in the world. Nine of those billionaires call the state of Pennsylvania home.

The richest of the rich aren’t as flush as they were a year ago. Elon Musk lost his No. 1 spot on the Forbes list, and 28 people fell off the list altogether from last year. Worldwide, the number of people with 10-figure fortunes is now at 2,640. The US has the most billionaires of any country—735 of them, who are collectively worth $4.5 trillion.

Here are the nine billionaires who hail from the commonwealth, along with their rankings on the Forbes list:

Jeff Yass (48th)

Republican mega-donor Jeff Yass lives in Haverford and is a cofounder of Susquehanna International Group, one of Wall Street’s largest and most successful trading firms. Susquehanna has invested in hundreds of private companies globally, including TikTok parent ByteDance.

Yass’ net worth is $26.5 billion, down from $30 billion in 2022.

Michael Rubin (151st)

Michael Rubin lives in Bryn Mawr and is the founder and CEO of online sports merchandising retailer Fanatics. He is also the former owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils.

Rubin’s net worth is $11.4 billion, up from $10.2 billion in 2022.

Victoria Mars (184th)

Victoria Mars lives in Philadelphia. She inherited her family’s candy company, Mars, Incorporated, along with her three sisters. In addition to sweets, the company also makes Ben’s Original rice and pet food, including Pedigree and Whiskas.

Mars’ net worth is $9.6 billion, up from $9.3 billion in 2022.

Arthur Dantchik (307th)

Dantchik lives in Gladwyne and co-founded Susquehanna International Group along with Yass.

Dantchik’s net worth is $7.2 billion, down from $7.5 billion in 2022.

Jeffrey Lurie (627th) 

Jeffrey Lurie lives in Wynnewood and is the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1994, Lurie took out a loan to buy the NFL team for $185 million. The team is now worth $4.9 billion.

Lurie’s net worth is $4.4 billion, which is the same as it was in 2022.

Thomas Hagen (698th)

Thomas Hagen lives in Erie and is the chairman of Erie Indemnity, a publicly traded insurance company.

Hagen’s net worth is $4.2 billion, down from $4.4 billion in 2022.

Mary Alice Dorrance Malone (712th)

Mary Alice Dorrance Malone lives in Coatesville and is the largest shareholder of the Campbell Soup Company. Malone is also the president of Iron Spring Farm, a horse breeding and training company with expansive properties in Pennsylvania and Florida.

Malone’s net worth is $4.2 billion, up from $3.9 billion in 2022.

John Middleton (869th)

John Middleton lives in Bryn Mawr and made his fortune selling his family’s tobacco business to Philip Morris’ parent, Altria, in 2007 for $2.9 billion in cash. Middleton also has a nearly 50% stake in the Philadelphia Phillies.

Thomas Tull (1,103rd)

Thomas Tull lives in Pittsburgh and is a former film financier and founder of production company Legendary Entertainment. His new investment holding company, Tulco, holds stakes in publicly traded medical apparel startup Figs and insurance brokerage Acrisure.
