The state received millions in unused American Rescue Plan money to help residents who are in jeopardy of having their water disconnected due to past-due bills.

Are you in danger of having your water service disconnected due to lack of payment? The state can help!

Pennsylvania has received $5 million in unused American Rescue Plan funds to help residents struggling to make payments on their water and wastewater bills.

Grants are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis for applicants who meet income requirements and who have past-due water bills. Residents can receive up to $5,000 for their water bills. And they don’t have to pay it back.

Pennsylvanians have until Aug. 11 to apply.

The federal dollars will be allocated by Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services through its Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program. More than 129,000 Pennsylvania residents applied for assistance in 2022.

Residents can apply for the program through the Department of Human Services website.
