We asked, you answered: When is the right time to start putting up holiday decorations?

If you think it’s too early to start putting up holiday decorations, you’re not alone.

Retail chains like Walmart began running holiday shopping ads during the Major League Baseball playoffs in October, and department stores have already put up their holiday shopping displays.

Walk down your street now and you’re likely to see a Christmas tree already up and decorated throughout someone’s front window.

Is it just us, or is it a little early yet for all the holly, jolly vibes and holiday decor? We asked our newsletter readers: When is the right time to start putting up holiday decorations?

Here’s what they had to say. Answers have been edited for length and clarity.

“It is acceptable to do your holiday decorating on Black Friday.  No earlier! The Christmas season starts when Santa arrives at Macy’s on Thanksgiving Day.”

-Margaret Wright, Honesdale

“The right time to decorate for Christmas (and start listening to Xmas music) is immediately following Thanksgiving.”

-Margaret Merlino, Welkert

“The best time to put up Xmas decorations is when it makes you happy!!!”

-Sonja Sausser, Lancaster

“For the love of all that is good, not until after Thanksgiving! PLEASE!”

-Dale Finn, Philadelphia

“I put up seasonal decorations, not necessarily holiday decorations, so when the seasons change, they go up. Right now my fall decorations are up…straw bale, pumpkins, mums. When winter comes…lights, snowmen, wreaths. And so on.”

-Danice Gewiss, Coatesville

“I start putting my Christmas decos up the day after Thanksgiving.  There is nothing like a magical Christmas in our Ligonier Valley!!”

-Cheryl, Ligonier

“In my opinion, holiday decorations should not go up until Thanksgiving weekend. If people can’t wait that long, perhaps the weekend before Thanksgiving.”

-Ronnie Mills, Doylestown

“As far as when to decorate for Christmas, I usually wait until the first weekend in December and keep them up until the weekend after Epiphany.”

-Jovita Heist, Northampton

“Christmas decorations go up the weekend after Thanksgiving, in my opinion.”

-Heather Green, Youngwood
