Philadelphia reintroduces The Oval, a parking lot-turned Outdoor Urban Oasis, just in time for summer fun.

In an exciting announcement for the city’s summer social calendar, the City of Philadelphia, in partnership with the Parkway Council, has confirmed the return of The Oval to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. In a statement released by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson, it was revealed that the popular outdoor urban oasis will operate over seven weekends, transforming a public parking lot into a dynamic recreational space.

The Oval will provide visitors with eight acres of varied experiences, including food and beverage offerings, arts, music, and entertainment, as well as wellness activities and special event programming. The facility, which is set to open to the public on Thursday, July 11, and operate through Sunday, Aug. 25, will feature some new attractions this year.

Libertee Grounds, a well-known mini-golf bar and restaurant in Francisville, will install an all-ages mini-golf course featuring prominent Philadelphia landmarks. Further enhancing the entertainment options, local band SNACKTIME has been enlisted to curate a concert series. To view the full calendar of events, click here.

The Oval will be open to the public from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, Noon to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and Noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

“The Parkway Council is delighted to deepen its partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and activate this amazing public space with programming for all,” commented Nicholas Anderson, Executive Director of the Parkway Council. He expressed optimism about the future collaborations with the City on the Parkway planning process.
