Gov. Josh Shapiro helped Kamala Harris’ campaign launch volunteer efforts across the commonwealth this weekend, marking 100 days until Election Day.
Gov. Josh Shapiro joined Democratic voters from across South Central Pennsylvania at the Rendezvous Farms outside of Carlisle on Saturday to help kick off Vice President Kamala Harris’ 100 Days Weekend of Action.
“We believe here, in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, everyone, no matter what they look like, where they come from, who they love or who they pray to should have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed,” Shapiro told the hundreds of supporters in attendance.
“We’ve stood tall every single day defending your fundamental freedoms and every single day I’ve put people before the power.”
Shapiro continued to pound the drum on freedom when speaking about the Vice President.
“She has been battle tested. She has been there. She is ready for the battle ahead, and most importantly, she is ready to serve as the 47th president of the United States,” Shapiro said.
“And every step of the way, Kamala Harris has fought for freedom.”
Harris became the Democrats’ expected nominee last Sunday after President Joe Biden announced that he won’t seek a second term in office and endorsed Harris to take on Donald Trump in November’s election.
Biden’s decision to step aside sparked an outpouring of support from Democrats, and party leaders in Pennsylvania and across the country quickly coalesced behind Harris.
Voter enthusiasm from Democrats has also skyrocketed since Biden’s announcement.
The Harris campaign raised over $126 million in the days after launching, and have signed up more than 8,000 volunteers throughout Pennsylvania in the week since the announcement.
“This presidential campaign has been turbocharged with energy,” Matt Roan, Chair of the Cumberland County Democratic Committee, said in an interview.
“We’re excited that this is on the first weekend of this campaign as we close in on 100 days we’re rallying right here in Cumberland County to make sure that we’re knocking on all the doors, making all the and talking to all the voters needed to win this election.
Shapiro has also found himself the subject of much enthusiasm and speculation as reportedly on Harris’ shortlist as a potential candidate for vice president, according to multiple media outlets. Democrats across Pennsylvania are rallying behind Shapiro’s potential nomination.
“I think there’s a lot of good picks, but I’m going to be biased,” Nate Hemerly, a Mechanicsburg resident who was wearing a Shapiro 2022 basketball jersey, told the Keystone.
“I love him. You know, he’s at the Phillies-Pirates game last weekend. He’s a normal guy just like I feel like I am. He’s going to connect really well with people and I think if they pick him we’re going to win for sure.”
