Former Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood, who served Bucks County, endorsed Malcolm Kenyatta’s campaign for Auditor General on Monday.

Former Bucks County Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood endorsed State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta’s campaign for Pennsylvania Auditor General.

Greenwood rose through the ranks of the Pennsylvania Republican Party during the 1980s, and was recruited by former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich to run for congress in 1992, where he served Bucks County from 1993 to 2005.

I’m a Republican, but I don’t support candidates based on their party. I support them based on the quality of their character, their intelligence, and why it is that they want to hold office,” Greenwood said in a video endorsing Kenyatta.

“Malcolm Kenyatta is running for auditor general and for all the right reasons. He wants to make sure that our tax dollars are spent wisely and for people’s benefit independent of politics or ambition.”

Kenyatta, who is attempting to make history as the first openly member of the LGBTQ community elected to a statewide office, is running against the incumbent Republican Auditor General, Timothy DeFoor, in the November’s election, and the endorsement comes at a time when DeFoor only has $19,000 on hand

While Timothy DeFoor runs to the MAGA right extreme, our campaign is reaching out to everyone — including lifelong Republicans like Congressman Greenwood,” Kenyatta said in a statement.

“I’m running as a proud Democrat, but if Pennsylvanians elect me as the next Auditor General, I will leave the party at the door and work to deliver a government that works for Pennsylvania’s working families.”

Kenyatta recently blasted DeFoor for announcing an audit of the state’s automatic voter registration system, claiming that DeFoor is stoking fears about undocumented immigrants voting in the upcoming election.

“DeFoor is once again bowing to Donald Trump, this time by paving the way for Trump’s Big Lie 2.0. His latest audit provides cover for dangerous conspiracies and election denialism, undermining trust in Pennsylvania’s electoral process,” Kenyatta said in a statement.

“After casting doubt on the 2020 election at the start of his tenure, DeFoor has launched yet another deeply political audit.”

Kenyatta laid out his vision for the auditor general’s office while speaking to voters in Montgomery County on Sunday.

“You need a candidate, and candidates, that have a vision for the future,” Kenyatta said to them.

“As your next auditor general, I’ve laid out what that vision would look like for me. I’m going to rebuild the Bureau of School audits on day one to ensure every single one of our kids is getting a high quality public education in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”

“We’re going to create the first of its kind Bureau of Labor and Worker Protections to make sure that from the day you fill out that first job application to the day that you’re lucky enough to retire that our workers are treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve here in Pennsylvania.”

Pennsylvania Supreme Court declines to decide mail-in ballot issues before election

The court rejected a request by voting rights and left-leaning groups to stop counties from throwing out mail-in ballots that lack a handwritten date or have an incorrect date on the return envelope. It also rejected a challenge by Republican political organizations to county election officials letting voters remedy disqualifying mail-in ballot mistakes.
