Free digital language learning platforms
Library cardholders to branches of The Free Library have access to two comprehensive language learning platforms that rival popular paid applications. The first, Mango Languages, provides instruction in over 70 languages, including American Sign Language and ESL programs. For those seeking even more options, Transparent Languages, available through POWER Library, offers lessons in more than 120 languages, including several endangered ones. Both platforms feature mobile apps for convenient learning on the go.
Beyond digital resources
The Free Library’s Languages and Learning department extends beyond digital offerings. Adult learners can participate in conversation circles and access a variety of print and audio materials. Interested learners can also subscribe to the department’s newsletter to stay informed about upcoming language programs.

Volunteer opportunities for multilingual speakers
The library is actively seeking volunteers, particularly Spanish speakers, to lead conversation groups at various branches throughout Philadelphia. Those interested in helping fellow Philadelphians develop their language skills can apply through the Volunteer Services Office or contact [email protected] for more information.
To access these resources, residents only need to obtain a library card. Users are encouraged to create accounts on both Mango and Transparent Languages to track their progress and maintain consistency in their language learning journey.
