After an unsuccessful 2025 season, a pair of bald eagles have recently begun renovations at the Hanover area eagle nest featured on a popular webcam feed.
According to HDOnTap, a web camera service from San Diego that runs the live Hanover bald eagle nest camera, a pair of bald eagles have visited the nest with increasing frequency since Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, and have spent hours in recent days renovating the nest.
Bald eagles typically lay eggs in their nest between February through April, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and nest-building often begins one to three months before eggs are laid in the nest.
While eagles visited the nest in the early 2025 during nesting season, the nest remained mostly abandoned and did not see any eggs in the 2025 season, according to HDOnTap.
The nest has experienced some difficulty in recent years, with no fledglings successfully raised in the nest since two fledglings left the nest during the 2022 season, according to records from the feed.
“Really exciting to watch them try to make the nest new again,” HDOnTap shared in one of the highlight clips, “hopefully this work on the nest continues.”
The recent renovations were apparent on Monday afternoon, with new extensive materials visible on the nest in comparison to footage and photographs from Dec. 5.
The livestream, run through a Pennsylvania Game Commission partnership with Comcast Business and HDOnTap, captures the activity of the nest located in Heidelberg Township near Codorus State Park. The camera has been online since January of 2015, when viewers first followed the original pair of eagles that occupied the nest, “Liberty” and “Freedom.”
The webcam feed has since drawn millions of viewers from around the world, according to HDOnTap.
At the Hanover nest, located around 100 feet off the ground, the live feed features two cameras with infrared capability, allowing for 24/7 viewing and multiple angles, HDOnTap said. The feed provides live audio, allowing viewers to listen as the eagles communicate from the nest.
The camera feed was out of service for some time in 2023 after HDonTap lost electricity for the site of the cameras, but after viewers raised $10,000, the camera returned back online on Dec. 25, 2023.
