Two new community hospitals in York County are expected to open in the spring, according to WellSpan’s advertisements.
One of the hospitals is just off Interstate 83 near the Newberry Commons shopping center in Newberry Township. It is expected to open in March, according to an advertisement. The address of the facility is 36 Robinhood Drive.
The other hospital is just off the I-83 Shrewsbury interchange in Hopewell Township. It is located at 13515 Wolfe Road, and it is expected to open in April, according to a Facebook post.
WellSpan announced several years ago that it planned to build three community hospitals in southcentral Pennsylvania. One is being constructed in Carlisle, Cumberland County.
“As WellSpan continues to reimagine the face of healthcare, we recognize that it cannot always be a one-size-fits-all approach. To truly make healthcare more accessible for our neighbors in South Central Pennsylvania, we must always strive to meet them where they are,” Roxanna Gapstur, president and CEO of WellSpan Health, said at the time. “As part of our mission to serve all, these neighborhood hospitals will provide efficient, close-to-home access to low acuity emergency and hospital care.”
WellSpan broke ground on the neighborhood hospitals in York County in 2024.
Southern York County is one of the fastest-growing areas in the region, and access to premier healthcare is one of the amenities families and businesses seek in a community, Kevin Schreiber, CEO of the York County Economic Alliance, said during the groundbreaking event.
The neighborhood hospital also expects to serve residents from northern Maryland.
The community hospitals will feature a 24/7 emergency department, 10 inpatient beds, and diagnostic services such as ultrasound, CT, X-ray and laboratory services, according to announcements at the time.
Emergencies that can be treated at the hospital include chest pain, dehydration, overdoses, pain control, strokes, pneumonia and more.
The community hospitals will be operated and staffed by Emerus, but they will be fully integrated with WellSpan systems, including the MyWellSpan patient portal, the healthcare system has said.
