Pennsylvania seniors or people with a disability can start the process to receive up to $1,500 back on rent or property taxes while filing your returns for the 2026 tax season.
The commonwealth’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is accepting applications through June 30, 2026, and can be applied for online through myPATH, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue tax hub.
That means that those filing their 2025 tax returns in Pennsylvania, with a household of $48,110 or less, could also apply for a break on the rent or property taxes paid last year.
How can I get money back on rent or property taxes in PA?
The program is open to low-income adults older than 65, or those older than 18 with permanent disabilities.
Widows and widowers are also eligible ages 50 and older. People with disabilities must have also been approved for Social Security Disability benefits.
The rebate is calculated based on income, but applicants who receive Social Security, Supplemental Security and State Supplementary Payment benefits only need to count half of those totals toward their reported annual household income for the rebate.
Here’s the rebate for each income level:
- Households making $8,550 or less per year may receive $1,000.
- Households earning $8,551 to $16,040 may receive $770.
- Households making $16,041 to $19,240 may receive $460.
- Households earning $19,241 to $48,110 may receive $380.
There’s also a bonus rebate that property owners who qualify for the original program can receive if they make $31,010 or less and their property taxes are more than 15% of their total income. Here’s that breakdown:
- An extra $500 for households making less than $8,550.
- An extra $385 for households making $8,551 to $16,040.
- An extra $230 for households making $16,041 to $19,240.
- An extra $190 for households making $19,241 to $48,110.
How to apply for property tax rebate in PA
Residents may apply by mail, in person or online.
Regardless of how you apply, you’ll need to submit proof of age, proof of income, and proof of property taxes or rent payments. Receipted tax bills from 2025 and rent certificates are accepted as proof of payment.
