The next thoroughbred champ may come from Bucks County, and you can watch as a star is born, literally, on “foal cams.”

Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association members are set to switch on cameras at stables on the campus of Delaware Vally University in Doylestown this month. People can tune in to see expectant mama horses give birth to maybe the next Smarty Jones.

“[We] will follow three expectant mares through its live stream ‘foal cams’ as they prepare to give birth to the next generation of champion racehorses,” members of the racing association said in a statement.

The foals are to be born on the campus at the Sydney J. Markovitz Equine Breeding Center. Students enrolled in Del Val’s Equine Science and Management are working full-time with faculty and a stable manager for experience in managing a horse stable.

Students are also to assist at the births of the baby horses.

All of the activities may be seen on the PHRA’s livestream foal cams on its website at pennhorseracing.com.

The livestream should give an uninterrupted look at the mama mares as they prepare for the arrival of their foals. Those who stick around long enough online should also see the daily habits of the mares and their student caregivers.

If it sparks an interest in the horsey life, the PHRA also has videos about horse, horse breeding and horse gender reveals.

Additional updates may also be found on the PHRA’s Facebook and Instagram.

The PHRA was created in 2018 with the goal of promoting horse racing in Pennsylvania and attracting new fans.

Horse racing and breeding in Pennsylvania contributes $1.6 billion to the state’s economy, employs more than 23,000 people and has resulted in the preservation of tens of thousands of acres of open space.

The foal cams switch on beginning March 17, and you may tune in anytime … just be in a stable mood.
