April 1, 2026

The Gettysburg Film Festival and the Pittsburgh Pirates’ home opener are among the fun things to do with the family across the commonwealth this weekend.

Looking for something fun to do with the family in Pennsylvania this weekend? No matter where you are in the state or what kind of fun you’re looking for, we’ve got you covered.

Check out these events:

The Gettysburg Film Festival — Thursday through Saturday

The Gettysburg Film Festival returns with a focus on the American Revolution. Launched in 2023 by Ken Burns, the award-winning filmmaker returns to the festival to share selections from his new series, “The American Revolution,” and lead conversations about the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Special screenings of three Revolutionary War-set films “The Patriot,” “The Howards of Virginia,” and “1776,” will also be featured.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ home opener — Friday

Could this be the season the Pirates return to contention and, possibly, the postseason? With a strong starting rotation led by Paul Skenes and top prospect Konnor Griffin expected in Pittsburgh at some point, they’ve got a shot. Even when the team isn’t playing great, PNC Park is still one of the best places to watch a game. There’s a chance of showers for Friday’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles, but they should be able to get the game in.

Kid to Kid Clothing Sale — Friday through April 16 (State College)

If you’re still in need of an Easter outfit for the kids, or new spring clothes for your growing little ones, the Kid to Kid Clothing Sale in State College is a great place to find what you’re looking for, with items from Nike, Adidas, Carter’s, Gap Kids, and OshKosh B’gosh discounted as much as 50% off. The sale features discounted toys as well.

Spring Egg Hunt at Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre — Saturday (Lehigh Valley)

Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre in Orefield is the oldest drive-in movie theater in the US. And on Saturday night, they’re hosting a unique triple feature with families in mind. At 7 p.m., there’s an all-ages egg hunt with thousands of eggs scattered under the drive-in screen. After that, it’s movie time: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” followed by “GOAT.”

Pups & Trucks at Artisan Mill Company — Saturday (Lancaster)

Lancaster’s Artisan Mill Company is a great place to find unique, locally-made goods, with dozens of local artisans and entrepreneurs offering an extraordinary selection of handcrafted creations. And at this Saturday’s Pups & Trucks event, Charlie’s Crusaders Pet Rescue will be on hand with adoptable pups ready to meet their forever families, as well as food trucks and a tattoo artist.
