Participants in Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Are Getting a Bonus Rebate

Individuals who were approved for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program in 2021 will receive a one-time bonus rebate before the end of this year.

Pennsylvanians who were approved for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2021 will receive an additional one-time bonus rebate later this year.

Individuals do not have to take any additional action to receive the one-time bonus rebate, which will be equal to 70% of the original rebate amount. The bonus rebate will be distributed through the same method (check or direct deposit) that the original rebate was awarded. 

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters.

The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.

The program is supported by the state lottery. 

Josh Shapiro, Democratic candidate for governor, has said he will extend the program if he is elected to “ensure seniors, veterans, and disabled citizens can stay in their homes.”
