“When the fate of our democracy and a woman’s right to choose are on the line, I know John will fight for Pennsylvanians. You can count on John Fetterman,” Obama said in a video posted to Twitter.
Former President Barack Obama on Friday endorsed Democrat John Fetterman for US Senate, praising Fetterman’s defense of women’s reproductive rights and democracy.
“In Pennsylvania, you’ve got some important choices to make this year, including who represents you in the US Senate. That’s why I’m asking you to vote for John Fetterman this Election Day, November 8,” Obama said in a video posted to twitter. “When the fate of our democracy and a woman’s right to choose are on the line, I know John will fight for Pennsylvanians. You can count on John Fetterman.”
The former president endorsement could provide a boost for Fetterman, who is in a competitive race against Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz. The winner of the race could determine control of the Senate.
In a statement, Fetterman thanked the former president for his endorsement.
“I am deeply grateful for President Obama’s support in this race,” Fetterman said. “I was proud to be one of the only elected officials in western Pennsylvania to endorse President Obama in the 2008 presidential primary, and it is truly an honor for him to get behind our campaign.”
Mail voting is already underway in Pennsylvania and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
