Whether you’re looking for locally sourced dishes or great views of the river, here’s a good list to start with.
There are many picturesque Pennsylvania towns along the Delaware River. Some of them have streets lined with shops to peruse, restaurants to enjoy, and walkable bridges that cross over into equally charming towns on the New Jersey side. Others have excellent restaurants that take advantage of the desirable riverfront location to entice diners.
Don’t miss these six restaurants—many of them in historic buildings— located in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Delaware River towns.
3rd & Ferry Fish Market, Northampton County
A popular place to dine before attending a performance at State Theatre, 3rd & Ferry Fish Market is a classic seafood restaurant and bar located in historic downtown Easton. Just a short walk from the riverfront, the restaurant houses a full raw bar, where guests can order the fan-favorite Grand Tower full of oysters, clams, shrimp, lobster tail, mussels, tuna tartare, and classic or mushroom ceviche.
The bar has an extensive craft cocktail menu, and every Sunday from noon to 6 p.m., 3rd & Ferry serves a $7 Bloody Mary and mimosa menu and buck-a-shuck oysters.
Black Bass Hotel, Bucks County
The restaurant at the Black Bass Hotel in Lumberville invites diners to relax, dine, and savor the tranquil views of the Delaware River. The inn was built in 1745 and is one of the oldest in the country. It now has nine beautifully appointed suites for overnight guests.
Guests don’t have to stay overnight at the hotel to enjoy the seasonal, international cuisine at the restaurant. There’s also a tavern inside the hotel with small plates and pub fare plus specialty cocktails, beer, and a solid by-the-glass wine list.
Dimmick Inn & Steakhouse, Pike County
Just a few blocks away from the river in the heart of Milford, Dimmick Inn has been serving customers since 1828. The inn originally served as a hotel, restaurant, saloon, post office, and stagecoach stop. Today, it’s a family-owned and operated restaurant and tavern with indoor and outdoor seating.
The braised short ribs and the crab cakes are touted as guests by the best in the area. The Sunday brunch menu is impressive, and diners love the ambiance. The best seat in the dining area is by the fireplace on a chilly night.
TVs above the well-stocked bar in the tavern make it a cozy place to watch the game, and music lovers will enjoy the live entertainment they have from time to time.
Itri Wood Fired Pizza, Bucks County
Just two blocks up from the waterfront in Bristol Borough, Itri is what you get when you merge a fantastic pizza place with a gastro pub. In addition to quality wood-fired pizza, the menu highlights small plates, cocktails, beer, and wine. The well-stocked bar has a solid whiskey collection.
Toppings for the pizzas and other items are mostly sourced locally. There are a few outdoor tables on the sidewalk, but most of the dining happens indoors.
After a meal, head to Bristol’s waterfront to take in the view of the river and have a stroll, taking in the various monuments. If it’s summer, you might catch some live music on the waterfront too.
Riegelsville Inn, Bucks County
A restaurant and pub, Riegelsville Inn is located in its original 1838 stone structure. It now has an updated bright yellow facade, canal-side al fresco dining, and second-floor balcony dining with Delaware River views.
The inn’s menu is classic French-influenced American, always prepared from scratch. The Sunday brunch is a guest favorite, with the restaurant’s popular Bloody Mary drinks. The burgers get rave reviews too, as does the lobster bisque.
On Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year, Riegelsville Inn has free live music, and on Monday nights they host an open mic event.
Stinger’s Waterfront, Delaware County
Located in a state-of-the-art facility at the Ridley Township Marina, Stinger’s Waterfront is the perfect casual place for lunch, dinner, or simply cocktails. The restaurant overlooks the river, and guests can watch boats and local wildlife from the nearby John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge as they dine. On a beautiful day, the outdoor deck overlooking the water is the place to be, but even indoors there are many vantage points to see the water.
In a region where crab fries are judged harshly against the originals, Stinger’s serves some of the best. The restaurant is just 10 minutes from the Philadelphia International Airport, making it easy for those staying at an airport hotel to take a cab or rideshare to Stinger’s if they want something other than hotel food.
