Here are the PA House seats that can help Democrats expand their majority

PA House Democrats are looking to build upon their one-seat majority this November. Here are four seats that can help them do just that in next week’s election.

From passing gun safety legislation to fighting to raise the minimum wage, Pennsylvania Democrats were able to accomplish a lot over the past two years with a one-seat majority in the Pennsylvania House.

This November they are looking to expand their majority after controlling the chamber for the first time in over a decade.

Here are four races that will help Democrats hold onto that majority and expand it.

PA House District 137

In what could be one of the top targeted statehouse races in the country, Democrats are looking to flip this Lehigh Valley house district.

Anna Thomas, a lifelong Bethlehem Township resident, is running against State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Lehigh), a seven-term incumbent.

This is Thomas’ second attempt at running for the seat against Emrick, who won by a little more than two percentage points in 2022.

Thomas is campaigning for high-quality education, protecting abortion access and reproductive rights and improving infrastructure throughout the region.

PA House District 142

Democrats are hoping to flip this Lower Bucks County seat after State Rep. Joe Hogan (R-Bucks) only won it by 76 votes in 2022.

Hogan, who used to be a staffer for former Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, is running against Anna Payne, who is a stage IV colorectal cancer and cystic fibrosis survivor.

Payne was endorsed by Gov. Josh Shapiro and is running to expand access to affordable healthcare, lowering prescription drug costs and protecting abortion access and reproductive rights.

PA House District 151

Democrats will need to hold on to State Rep. Melissa Cerrato’s (D-Montgomery) Montgomery County district if Democrats intend on keeping control of the Pennsylvania House going into 2025.

Cerrato flipped her seat and gave Democrats a one-seat majority after defeating former State Rep. Todd Stephens, a long-time incumbent, by 54 votes in 2022.

During her campaign, Cerrato fought for reproductive rights, funding public education and passing gun safety legislation.

Cerrato is running against Allen Anderson, a 76-year old lawyer from Horsham.

PA House District 160

Democrats see an opportunity to flip this Chester County seat after State Rep. Craig Williams (R-Chester) failed to win the primary for Pennsylvania Attorney General.

Elizabeth Moro, who previously ran for congress in 2018, is the owner of Centerville Place: Cafe + Market in Delaware and is a real estate broker in Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Moro was surprised when she received Shapiro’s endorsement earlier this fall and is running to fully fund public education, protect abortion access and reproductive freedoms and preserve parks, farmland and open green spaces throughout the commonwealth.
