Seven counties in Pennsylvania made the list of snowiest counties in the nation.
Snow days are nothing new to Pennsylvanians. In fact, it’s a way of life in the winter. From snow covered roads, to school closures, we are used to snowfall interrupting our daily lives. But how do the commonwealth’s counties measure up to counties in other states? Which ones are the snowiest?
Lawn Love, a national lawn service and equipment company, recently did a study to project the snowiest counties in 2025 by comparing 258 counties based on historical snowfall records, temperature, and demand for snow removal services. Seven counties in the commonwealth made the list, including Erie (27), Luzerne (66), Allegheny (81), Lehigh (87), Lycoming (106), Dauphin (110), and Philadelphia (137).
Coos County, New Hampshire, came out on top followed by Copper River Census Area and Matanuska-Susitna Borough, both in Alaska, respectively.
It’s no wonder that Erie was the first Pennsylvania county on the list, as the northwestern part of the state was hit with a massive snowstorm last month, dumping a few feet on the area. While the last few years have been relatively light on snowfall, the commonwealth has received its fair share of blizzards over the last few decades.
While the snowstorm that hit the state this past weekend wasn’t necessarily a blizzard, it did drop a bit of snow on some of the snowiest counties:
- Erie County – 18.4 inches
- Luzerne County – 5.6 inches
- Lehigh County – 7.3 inches
- Dauphin County – 6.5 inches
- Philadelphia County – 3.5 inches

Since day one, our goal here at The Keystone has always been to empower people across the commonwealth with fact-based news and information.
