Officials are asking for help in identifying the “owner” of a deer with a spray painted message that visited a West Cornwall Township business over the weekend.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, an antler-less male deer wandered in the township, according to the Cornwall Borough Police Department. The deer was spray painted on both sides of his body with fluorescent orange paint of the word “PET.”
Officers described the deer as “very friendly,” and said that “Mr. Deer” hung around the area for more than 45 minutes before he went on his way.
“He had no fear of anyone that was around and acted like it wanted the on-scene officer to pet it, nor did he run when the officer activated the sirens on the cruiser,” police said on their Facebook page.
Pennsylvania State Game Warden Salsgiver came out and took a report about the incident. Officials advised that most likely Mr. Deer was someone’s pet “that got too big and was left loose into the wild.” The “owner” of the deer probably applied the spray paint to keep it safe from hunters.
Officials added it is illegal to keep a deer as a pet in Pennsylvania.
Residents with any information about the incident are asked to contact The Pennsylvania Game Commission at (833) 742-4868.
