Across Pennsylvania, artisans and small businesses create incredible handmade goods—from art and jewelry to tasty treats and festive home decor. And the holiday season is the perfect time to shop small at markets and craft fairs across the state.

Whether you prefer bustling markets on city streets or small-town craft fairs, you’re sure to find handmade gifts, delicious food, and unique art. We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite holiday markets in every corner of the state, where you can buy local goods you won’t see anywhere else. Eastern PA holiday markets

Christkindlmarkt – Bethlehem (Northampton County)

Dates: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Dec. 21

“Christkindlmarkt” is the German name for the traditional, open-air holiday market that originated in German-speaking parts of Europe hundreds of years ago—a festive custom that is now popular around the world, including across Pennsylvania. And as the Lehigh Valley’s Bethlehem is nicknamed “Christmas City,” it’s no surprise that Bethlehem’s Christkindlmarkt is regularly named among the best Christmas markets in the country. Hosted by ArtsQuest at Bethlehem’s SteelStacks, Christkindlmarkt features more than 100 artisans, crafters, and other vendors, including more than a dozen food vendors serving a variety of eats from German-inspired strudel to not-so-German pizza and tacos. Don’t forget to warm up with a mug of Glühwein—that is, mulled wine.

Advance admission is $12 on Thursdays and Fridays and $14.50 on Saturdays and Sundays—kids ages 5 and under are free.

Pennsylvania German Christmas Artisan Markets – Montgomery County

Dates: Dec. 5-7

In Montgomery County, five different historic sites and heritage organizations will offer a Pennsylvania German Christmas experience, complete with artisan markets, all over one weekend. Small, festive events hosted by the county’s Goschenhoppen Historians, Historic Trappe, the Mennonite Heritage Center, the Peter Wentz Farmstead, and Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center will offer seasonal markets with folk art and holiday gifts, as well as candlelight walks and tours of historic sites. Dates and hours vary by site, so be sure to check the relevant website before planning your weekend.

Lackawanna Winter Market – Scranton (Lackawanna County)

Dates: Dec. 5-7

Shop local at the Lackawanna Winter Market, a weekend-long market featuring small businesses and local makers alongside holiday fun like live music and the courthouse tree lighting. Pick up a variety of gifts, from local libations like handmade hard cider to artistic wares like handcrafted jewelry and hand-poured candles.

Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market – Philadelphia

Dates: Now through Jan. 1

The Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market gives Philadelphians the opportunity to support local artists and makers over the entire holiday season. The Dilworth Park market, running from mid-November through Jan. 1, features gifts, art, and crafts from local artisans in the tri-state area, specializing in a variety of wares, from pottery and jewelry to handmade rubs and spices. Tip: Try to visit on a weekday if you want to avoid the crowds!

Pearl S. Buck International Craft Show – Perkasie (Bucks County)

Dates: Now through Dec. 7

The Bucks County home of famed author and humanitarian Pearl S. Buck—the Pearl S. Buck House—has hosted a juried holiday craft show for more than 30 years. The Pearl S. Buck International Craft Show features the best of handmade gifts, with professional artisans selling decor, art, jewelry, apparel, and more, while chefs offer homemade foods. All included items have been selected by a jury. Admission to the craft show is $5, with proceeds benefiting the work of Pearl S. Buck International.

Central PA holiday markets

Bellefonte Winter Market – Bellefonte (Centre County)

Date: Dec. 13

Bellefonte Winter Market is an open-air holiday market in the European style that features artisan vendors, homemade wares, and delicious food and drink while the historic town celebrates its traditional holiday festival, Bellefonte Victorian Christmas. Find the market at Bellefonte’s Talleyrand Park.

Christkindl Market – Mifflinburg (Union County)

Dates: Dec. 11-13

Though perhaps not as famous as Bethlehem’s giant holiday market, Mifflinburg’s Christkindl Market takes the prize for hosting not just Pennsylvania’s longest-running open-air holiday market, but the oldest in the country. Each year, Mifflinburg’s German heritage comes alive with an authentic German market featuring dozens of vendors selling diverse wares from handmade gifts and local wine to genuine German Christmas decor. The atmosphere is complete with food and drink vendors serving bratwurst, apple strudel, and many a mug of Glühwein. The 2025 holiday season will mark Mifflinburg’s 36th annual market.

The Find Makers Markets – York (York County)

Dec. 13

The Find connects local makers with the York community by hosting maker market events throughout the county year-round featuring gifts such as salvaged-wood art, handmade soaps, Pennsylvania-made cheese, upcycled clothing, artisan jewelry, and more! The final market before the holidays—the official “holiday market”—takes place on Dec. 13 at Terrapin Station.

Western PA holiday markets

Handmade Arcade Holiday Market – Pittsburgh (Allegheny County)

Dates: Dec. 5-6

You can still shop small at Pittsburgh’s largest holiday market. In early December, thousands of shoppers from across the region will descend on the city’s David L. Lawrence Convention Center for the Handmade Arcade Holiday Market, where nearly 300 vendors will sell art and handmade wares. Get to know area small businesses and stock up on presents for friends and family—or, you know, gifts for yourself.

General admission is pay what you can, with suggested ticket prices ranging from $5 to $20.

West Overton Village Holiday Makers Market – Scottdale (Westmoreland County)

Dates: Dec. 6-7

Historic West Overton Village, home to a museum showcasing Western Pennsylvania whiskey history, is hosting a festive Holiday Makers Market featuring local makers who bake, craft, or grow their own goods. Visitors can shop for handmade food, art, libations, jewelry, crafts, and more while sipping special holiday cocktails or picking up bottles of rye whiskey from the site’s own distillery, West Overton Distilling. Each day of the weekend-long event will host different vendors in order to highlight as many small businesses as possible, and will also have food trucks on site to fuel your holiday shopping!

Gem City Flea Market – Erie (Erie County)

Date: Dec. 14

Gem City Flea Market is a spin on a traditional flea market, with regular events bringing together regional vendors selling handmade goods as well as antiques and vintage pieces. Gem City Flea’s holiday market will feature more than 50 vendors from the tri-state region specializing in a variety of areas, including antiques, edible treats, plants, vintage records, candles, and other gifts. Plus, the market will not only support small businesses—proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Companion Animal Coalition. Find the December market at the East Erie Moose Club.
