A new Wawa is taking shape in Franklin County.
The exterior of the store and the fuel island canopy are both up at the new Wawa location at the corner of Buchanan Trail East and Grindstone Hill Road in Antrim Township.
It is not clear when the store is slated to open. Wawa’s public relations team did not respond to requests for comment.
It has been over a year since the company, under the name Route 16 Development, filed plans with Antrim Township for a new food market and fueling station.
The plans filed with the township show a 6,049-square-foot building plus fueling area on a 1.75-acre lot. The location is just east of the Borough of Greencastle and Exit 5 of Interstate 81.
It is on a tract known as Greencastle Crossing that also includes Keystone Car Wash and Burger King. It is catty-corner across Pa. 16 from a Sheetz convenience store.
The Greencastle store will be the second Wawa in Franklin County. A Chambersburg location, 1071 Wayne Ave., opened in January 2025.
Information provided prior to the grand opening in Chambersburg said Wawa is investing $7 million to build each new store, with construction requiring an average of 140 contractors and local partners. Wawa’s Pennsylvania expansion is expected to create about 1,400 long-term jobs, including about 35 employees for each store.
Wawa, known for its hoagies, coffee and other fresh menu items, has more than 1,100 convenience stores (900 with gas stations) on the East Coast.
The company has been spreading throughout central Pennsylvania since announcing plans to expand in the region in 2022. Company officials at the time said 50 stores were expected to open in the region over the next five to seven years.
Nearby, there are also two Wawa stores in the Hagerstown area, at 13610 Pennsylvania Ave. in Maugansville and 10335 Supercenter Drive, off the Sharpsburg Pike.
