The promised restaurant collaboration of the summer is open for business.

Colony Pizza and McGarrey’s Oakwood Cafe are serving Reubens and pizza—and Reuben pizza—from 861 E. 38th St.

Owners Shane McGarrey (Oakwood) and Eric Broffman (Colony) have been talking about this for years, but got serious when they found what they thought was the perfect location.

They weren’t wrong. The place has been so busy, neither have had time to get off the cook line and show the place off.

But someone should. It’s a nice place, with gleaming wood everywhere, and decor featuring photos important to both restaurants’ histories. Also, it’s one of the only places in town where you can get pizza by the slice. And not just pepperoni and cheese, but 12 of what Broffman chose as favorites, including Hawaiian, Blanco, pepperoni and mushroom, even staff favorites.

For now, the are only open 3 to 10 p.m. daily, but plan to open a drive-through lane for pizza slices, lunch hours and catering. Right now, they’re still working out the kinks from a system that was introduced as recently as June 10, when they officially opened.

Both said they were hoping to bring their food to the east side, and their new neighbors are responding. On a recent random Tuesday at 3 p.m., they were hustling, trying to fill orders and tables as fast as they could.

If you plan to try it out, bring your patience, but also a healthy appetite.
