State car owners could save money when registering their vehicles, under a state lawmaker’s plan.
In a memo seeking co-sponsors, House Transportation Committee Chair Ed Neilson (D-Philadelphia) said his bill would provide a discount for people who want to register their vehicles for two years instead of one.
The legislation itself has yet to be introduced, and Neilson’s memo did not specify the amount of the discount. But a spokesperson for Neilson said in a text message it would “be at least 10%.”
Currently, it costs $48 to register a vehicle in Pennsylvania for one year, and $96 for two.
Neilson said in the memo that the idea was based on private sector subscription models, which often provide discounted daily rates for customers willing to commit to a service for longer. He called it “financial motivation.”
