Shapiro highlighted some of the emotional scars he and his family are left with after an arsonist attempted to burn down the Governor’s residence last April while delivering a keynote address condemning political violence.
Shapiro was in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and I wanted to share a quick portion of Shapiro’s speech that I found to be important.
We are currently going through a “cancel culture” moment following Charlie Kirk’s assassination and Trump’s filing a frivolous $15 billion lawsuit in order to silence critical reporting by the New York Times. Shapiro warned about the excesses of censorship and how that can lead to more political violence.
”We need to create more opportunities for peaceful and respectful dialogue, respecting each other’s fundamental rights as Americans. Censorship, using the long arm of government to silence people, to silence businesses and nonprofits, and restrict their right to free speech. That will not solve this problem,” Shapiro said.
“Prosecuting constitutionally protected speech will only further erode our freedoms and deepen the mistrust. That is un-American. There is a better way and that better way is the Pennsylvania way.”
