In honor of the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, there will be events taking place throughout the state.
Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 that claimed the lives of neary 3,000 people, including 28 Pennsylvanians.
Memorial events are scheduled throughout the commonwealth to honor the memory of those who were lost on Sept. 11.
While this list is by no means comprehensive, here are a handful of events planned in remembrance of 9/11:
9/11 Anniversary Events, Shanksville
The Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville has a weekend of events planned to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial will hold a Heroes’ Walk on Sept. 9. A Tower of Voices Ranger Talk will be held at the Tower of Voices at 3 p.m. the same day.
On Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. there will be a Call to Action Ranger program offered at Memorial Plaza. A ranger-led walking program called 13 Days in September will be offered at 10 a.m. starting at the Visitor Center Complex.
On Sept. 11 starting at 9:45 a.m. there will be a Moment of Remembrance at the Memorial Plaza which is free and open to the public. A public wreath-laying ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Plaza near the Wall of Names.
9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk, Lower Makefield
The Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield will hold a 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 10 beginning at 9 a.m.
King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company 9/11 Memorial Run
The KPVFC 9-11 Memorial Run will be held at 12 p.m. on Sept. 9 starting at the fire company’s facility on Allendale Road in King of Prussia.
9/11 Heroes Run, Allison Park
The 2023 Pittsburgh 9/11 Heroes Run will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 16 at North Park Boathouse in Allison Park.
According to the event’s website, the 9/11 Heroes Run unites communities internationally with the goal to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11 and the wars since: veteran, first responder, civilian and military.
4th Annual Never Forget 9/11 Cruise, Manheim
The 4th Annual Never Forget 9/11 Cruise will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Root’s Country Market & Auction in Manheim.
The cruise will benefit local first responder stations. Cost is $10 for a driver and $5 per passenger. All vehicles are allowed on the approximately 25 mile cruise.
9/11 First Responders Remembrance 5K, Pulaski
The 9/11 First Responders Remembrance 5K will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11 starting on School House Road in Pulaski. The event will include a 5K run and 2 mile walk with discount pricing for firefighters, police, military, and veterans.
Never Forget 9/11 Golf Tournament, Hawley
The inaugural Never Forget 9/11 Golf Tournament will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 11 at the Country Club at Woodloch Springs in Hawley.
Registration is $200 and includes a plated sit-down dinner and awards. There are a variety of sponsorship levels starting at just $100.
9/11 Ceremony, Chadds Ford
A 9/11 ceremony honoring the tragic day will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Brandywine Battlefield Park Visitor Center.
9/11 Memorial of Remembrance, Lackawaxen
The 9/11 Memorial of Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11 at the Remembrance Pond in Lackawaxen. The ceremony will be held to honor those who have fallen and those whose lives have been forever changed by the events of 9/11.
9/11 Day of Service
A 9/11 Day of Service will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 on the Bush Campus Center patio at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport. The event is organized by the Office of Student Engagement and the community is invited to participate.
9/11 Anniversary Event, Royersford
A 9/11 Anniversary event will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Trinity Lighthouse Church in Royersford. The event will feature guest speaker, Erik Ronningen, who was the last person to escape the South Tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11 before it collapsed.
