The federal holiday honors the legacy of King and the Civil Rights Movement and it is intended to be a national day of service, encouraging Americans to volunteer in their communities, according to the National Park Service.
Grant applications are due Jan. 31 for the Beaver County America250 Grant Program, which will offer grant funding to projects that celebrate the nation's birthday through activities that educate, bring communities together, inspire youth and promote Beaver County in 2026.
The Beaver County plant was once projected to bring in $1.5 billion a year, but its cost has exceeded more than double its original $6 billion estimate.
