UPMC nurses score historic union win

US Rep. Summer Lee (D-Allegheny) joined dozens of newly unionized nurses from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Magee-Womens Hospital to celebrate a historic victory.

Close to 1,000 nurses will be joining Service Employees International Union Healthcare Pennsylvania (SEIU HCPA) after voting 403 to 305 in favor of the union last week. It marked the first time nurses were able to unionize at UPMC, the commonwealth’s largest employer.

Lee called on UPMC to join the nurses at the negotiating table and bargain with them in good faith.
