Gov. Shapiro joins Philadelphia in lawsuit fighting slavery memorial’s removal

The National Park Service last week removed interpretive signage at the former site of the president’s house on Independence Mall, where visitors flock to see Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The exhibit included historical details of the nine people enslaved in the house where Washington and First Lady Martha Washington lived.

National parks will remain ‘generally’ open during the shutdown, but Liberty Bell doors are closed

A shutdown contingency plan released by the park service said “park roads, lookouts, trails, and open-air memorials will generally remain accessible to visitors.” However, parks without “accessible areas” will be closed, and sites currently open could close if damage is done to park resources or garbage is building up, the plan says.
