Here’s how to take advantage of early in-person voting in Pennsylvania

Registered Pennsylvania voters can complete and submit their ballots in person ahead of Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Did you know that you can take advantage of early in-person voting in Pennsylvania?

Registered Pennsylvania voters can apply for a mail-in ballot in person at their county elections office (click here to find yours) or other officially designated location.

Once your application has been approved (the process usually takes just a few minutes), you can complete and submit the ballot right there on the spot. To apply, you will need a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, PennDOT photo ID card, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. Here’s a list of other acceptable forms of identification.

Most county election offices should have mail-in ballots by mid-October. By law, mail-in ballots must be ready no later than two weeks prior to Election Day which would be Tuesday, Oct. 22. You can check your county’s website or call your county elections office to see if ballots are finalized and available.

The deadline to apply for a ballot in-person for the 2024 General Election is 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29.

You may drop off your mail ballot in person until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5.

Here’s what to do with your mail ballot:

  • Mark your ballot
  • Seal your ballot in the white inner secrecy envelope that indicates “official elections ballot,” making sure not to make any marks on the envelope. Your ballot must be enclosed and sealed in the white inner secrecy envelope or it will not be counted.
  • Seal the inner secrecy envelope inside the pre-addressed outer return envelope where you must sign. Seal your ballot in both envelopes, or it will not be counted.
  • Complete, sign, and date the voter’s declaration on the outside of the outer return envelope. If you do not sign and date the outer return envelope, your ballot will not be counted.
  • Hand it back to your county’s election office staff for processing.

That’s it! It’s as easy as that.

Are you ready to vote? Make sure to check your voter registration status, see who’s on your ballot, and make a voting plan here.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court declines to decide mail-in ballot issues before election

The court rejected a request by voting rights and left-leaning groups to stop counties from throwing out mail-in ballots that lack a handwritten date or have an incorrect date on the return envelope. It also rejected a challenge by Republican political organizations to county election officials letting voters remedy disqualifying mail-in ballot mistakes.
