Want to get away, but wish the furry members of your family could join your vacation? Try these spots in the Poconos.
Pennsylvania’s famous holiday destination, the Pocono Mountains, is an ideal place to bring your pup along for the ride. The mountains have miles of trails full of good sniffs, lots of lakes for swimming, and also several pet-friendly hotels where you can cuddle up with your best friend.
We’ve put together a list of six of our favorite Pocono-area, dog-friendly lodgings, whether the rooms simply allow pets or the hotels have crafted bespoke experiences for your pooch (and you!). Be sure to check specific property requirements for doggy guests — like vaccinations or age minimums — as well as dog fees. And don’t forget to pack the chew toys!
Hotel Fauchère – Milford
If you and your pup like the finer things in life, you may want to book a stay at Hotel Fauchère, a historic hotel that combines a look into the past with luxury amenities.
Much of the 1800s-era building has been carefully restored, though modern comforts abound, like Nespresso machines and quality linens in each room. And though the hotel is certainly upscale, your pup is more than welcome in your room, on the dog walking trail, and on the porch of the hotel’s fine dining restaurant.
You can also reserve a crate through the hotel for when your dog can’t accompany you antiquing in Milford. Though with advance notice, the hotel may also be able to arrange such doggy luxuries as salon services, gourmet meals, and pet sitting and walks.
Good Dog Vacations at Big Valley Resort – Sciota
According to Good Dog Vacations, they’re the “only fully dog-friendly resort in the Pocono Mountains,” so you can rest assured that the Good Dog Vacations folks at Big Valley Resort will welcome you and your pup with a smile.
The resort rents out five pet-friendly chalets that can all sleep up to six people — and of course, your dog(s). The chalets are designed with your pup in mind, as they include a doggy swimming pool, a fenced-in yard, and necessities like food and water bowls.
Besides the canine amenities, lodgings include full kitchens as well as access to a pool for humans and a private trail.
The Settlers Inn – Hawley
The Settlers Inn is a Pocono Mountains bed and breakfast that is fully prepared for your pet’s vacation.
Upon arrival, inn staff will greet you and your dog with a new chew toy, a treat, food and water bowls, and waste bags (hotel speak for poop bags). You can use the inn as your home base as you explore the surrounding mountains, but you can also wander the trails on the hotel property and visit the nearby Lackawaxen River.
Dogs get a treat each day that you stay in one of the two pet-friendly rooms at the inn.
Ledges Hotel – Hawley
The Settlers Inn’s sister property, the boutique Ledges Hotel near the stunning Paupack High Falls, is just as welcoming to dogs. Gracie, the hotel’s director of pet relations (and pooch herself), put together a guide to some of her favorite activities — we surmise other dogs may agree with her choices.
Like the Settlers Inn, Ledges Hotel provides dogs with treats, food and water bowls, waste bags, and a brand-new chew toy for your dog to get acquainted with throughout your stay. The two hotels are even linked via a walking trail so you can enjoy the natural surroundings of each.
Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort – Waymart
A spring, summer, or fall vacation at Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort will allow you and your family — fur babies included — to enjoy the best of the Pocono Mountains.
The resort sits along beautiful Keen Lake, where you can swim and suntan your days away along with your dog. While you can enjoy the lake’s beach intended for people, the resort also has a separate pet beach specifically for dogs. Your pooch can splash in the water, surrounded by new friends. Guests can also rent kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards with which to explore the lake — and if you garner a doggie lifejacket, why not bring your pup along for the ride?
Lodging at Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resorts consists of a campground, glamping tents, and a variety of cottages.
Pump House Inn & Spa – Skytop
The Pump House Inn & Spa is a historic estate nestled in the woods of Monroe County. The inn was a Poconos destination for decades before it closed in the early 2000s, but in 2023, the Pump House reopened under a new ownership team committed to merging the inn’s gloried past with the comforts of the present. And you can experience the new Pump House with your dog.
After you enjoy a good night’s sleep and the inn’s complimentary breakfast, lace up your hiking boots and go explore the mountains with your dog; the inn is just 15 minutes from the beautiful Promised Land State Park.
