Donald Trump called Josh Shapiro a “highly overrated Jewish Governor” after Shapiro finished his speech at the Democratic National Convention. Shapiro asked voters which path they want to choose.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro spoke to reporters Thursday in Chicago after former President Donald Trump called him “a highly overrated Jewish Governor” on Truth Social on Wednesday.
“First off, I think it’s clear over the last few weeks Donald Trump is obsessed with me and obsessed with continuing to spew hate and division in our politics,” Shapiro said to reporters.
“He’s someone who routinely peddled anti-Semitic tropes like this. And look, remember, he’s the guy who wanted Doug Mastriano to have this job. He’s the guy who has been repeatedly rejected by the voters of Pennsylvania.”
Trump made the post on Truth Social following Shapiro’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday where Shapiro asked Americans to decide if they want to go down the path of extremism or the path of continued progress.
@keystonenewsroom Josh Shapiro responded to Donald Trump’s post calling him an “overrated jewish governor from Pennsylvania,” arguing that his campaign will fail as Pennsylvania voters have continuously rejected his message of hate and division. “Josh Shapiro made a really bad and poorly delivered speech talking about freedom and fighting for Comrade Kamala Harris [sic], yet she hates Israel and will do nothing but make its journey through the complexities of survival as difficult as possible,” Trump said.
Shapiro, who has a high approval rating in a key swing state, responded to Trump’s continued anti-semitic “dual-loyalty” tropes.
“Jewish elected officials care about a whole lot of things like me, which is how we give our kids a great quality education, how we make our streets safe, how we create opportunity, how we make sure that there’s real freedom in our commonwealth and care about Israel,” Shapiro said.
“To the best I checked, the job of the governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania did not involve foreign policy with Israel. We don’t mind answering the questions, but the way Donald Trump continually tries to set that up, this notion of a dual loyalty is that it’s hard.”
