Citing his “direct involvement” in strategies to undermine the election results, the US House committee ordered US Rep. Scott Perry to answer questions in its investigation of the insurrection.
The US House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection subpoenaed Republican US Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania on Thursday.
Perry was among five Republicans ordered to appear before the committee. In a statement, the House committee said Perry was “directly involved with efforts to corrupt the Department of Justice and install Jeffrey Clark as acting Attorney General. In addition, Mr. Perry had various communications with the White House about a number of matters relevant to the Select Committee’s investigation, including allegations that Dominion voting machines had been corrupted.”
In December, the committee requested an interview and phone records from the five-term Dauphin County congressman. He denied their requests.
The committee is seeking information about meetings Perry had with former President Donald Trump prior to the attack on the US Capitol where they discussed strategies about how to block the results at the Jan. 6 electoral count.
“The Select Committee has learned that several of our colleagues have information relevant to our investigation into the attack on January 6th and the events leading up to it,” the panel’s chairman, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, said in the statement. “Before we hold our hearings next month, we wished to provide members the opportunity to discuss these matters with the committee voluntarily.
“Regrettably, the individuals receiving subpoenas today have refused and we’re forced to take this step to help ensure the committee uncovers facts concerning January 6th.”
Perry’s deposition is scheduled for the end of May.
“That this illegitimate body leaked their latest charade to the media ahead of contacting targeted Members is proof positive once again that this political witch hunt is about fabricating headlines and distracting Americans from their abysmal record of running America into the ground,” Perry said in a statement on his website.
Earlier this week, Perry received Trump’s endorsement in the primary race for the 10th Congressional District.
