The Berks County native, who performs in Tokyo the night before the Super Bowl, should be able to make it to Las Vegas in time for kickoff, thanks to the international date line and a chartered plane.
Condolences to those Central Pa. folks who were pulling for the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday’s AFC title game.
But don’t think for a second that just because the team that plays a convenient hop down I-83 was eliminated (at least they hung in there longer than the Eagles and the Steelers) that there’s no Pennsylvania connection to the Super Bowl.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock in a cave with poor cell phone reception while in a coma, you surely know that Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce is dating Berks County native Taylor Swift. Maybe you’ve seen Swift cheering on Kelce during Chiefs games this season. The camera tends to find her.
On Sunday, Swift gave Kelce a short peck and embraced him with a big hug after he and Chiefs beat the Ravens to advance to the Super Bowl, and then the two locked lips with a smooch seen around the football world.
The big question now: Will Swift, who kicks off another round of touring next Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Tokyo, be able to see her boyfriend and the Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas? She has concerts set for Tokyo on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10, but the time difference — and the international date line — would allow her to be on hand for the game.
Here’s how: The international date line serves as the boundary between calendar days. When traveling eastbound over the line, the date decreases by one day, while going west over the boundary moves things forward by one day. Since Swift is traveling east, she should be able to perform Saturday night in Tokyo, get a normal night’s sleep, and as long as the 13-hour flight leaves before 6 p.m. Japan Standard Time on Sunday, she’ll land in Las Vegas before kickoff at 3:30 p.m. PT. Flying in her own chartered plane will probably make such a journey easier.
As for the travel plans of the couple’s Kansas City-based fans: American Airlines added a flight from Kansas City to Las Vegas on Feb. 10, the day before the Super Bowl, at 12:30 p.m. local time — flight 1989 for Swift’s birth year and one of her albums. After the game, flight 87 — Kelce’s jersey number — leaves Las Vegas for Kansas City at 12:20 a.m. local time on Feb. 12.
