The fraudulent video, in which someone appears to rip up mail ballots with votes for Donald Trump and other Republicans, has been reported to law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Pennsylvania Department of State.
Officials in Bucks County warned voters Thursday after a fake video began circulating on social media that appeared to show mail-in ballots with votes for Donald Trump and other Republicans being opened and destroyed.
“The envelope and materials depicted in this video are clearly not authentic materials belonging to or distributed by the Bucks County Board of Elections,” the Bucks County Board of Elections said in a bipartisan statement on Thursday.
“This type of behavior is meant to sow division and distrust in our election systems, and makes a mockery of the people working incredibly hard to ensure a free and fair election is carried out. The Board of Elections unequivocally condemns this purposeful spreading of dangerous disinformation. We will not be distracted from the job the voters of Bucks County have entrusted to us.”
In the fake video, someone rips mail ballots with votes for Trump into pieces, while saying “f**k Donald Trump.” Ballots with votes for Kamala Harris are placed back in the envelope.
The video was shared by multiple conservative-leaning accounts on X. A small sign fixed to what appears to be an office cubicle reads “Yardley Borough.”
“BREAKING: Destruction of Trump mail-in ballots caught on camera in Bucks County, PA,” the X post says. “This shocking footage must be investigated immediately! If true, this could be serious threat to integrity of election. Becoming clearer that this is only way Dems think they can win election!”
The video has been reported to law enforcement, including the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Yardley Borough police, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and the FBI, as well as the Pennsylvania Department of State.
“Our investigation has concluded that this video was fabricated in an attempt to undermine confidence in the upcoming election,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement. “Our office is in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation who will be attempting to locate the source of this manufactured video.
“The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office will not tolerate any voter suppression, intimidation, or fraud.”
