Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-Philadelphia) called out US House Republicans for putting the health care of more than 13 million Americans at risk in order to pay for tax cuts for the ultra rich during a Ways and Means Committee meeting late on Tuesday.
US House Republicans introduced a budget bill that cuts Medicaid by $715 billion, and according to a report by the Congressional Budget Office, at least 8.6 million Americans will lose their health care because of cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
An additional 5.1 million Americans are at risk of losing their health care if Republicans refuse to extend tax credits to make the ACA more affordable.

State Rep Rick Krajewski (D-Philadelphia), who was the prime sponsor of House Bill 1200, a cannabis legalization bill, shared what he believes to be failures of the private cannabis industry after Senate Republicans voted the bill down in committee on Tuesday.
Pennsylvania House Democrats last week passed HB 1200, which seeks to legalize adult-use cannabis for those over the age of 21. The bill calls for selling cannabis through Pennsylvania’s state-owned liquor store system.
Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians will lose coverage if Republicans push through their $625 billion cut to Medicaid.

While visiting Bucks County this past weekend, US Sen. Ruben Gallego said it would be a black eye on the country if President Donald Trump tries to suspend habeas corpus and due process for all Americans.
Stephen Miller, a top White House advisor to Trump, suggested that Trump is actively looking at suspending habeas corpus, even though he does not have the power to do so.
Congress is the only branch of government that has the power to suspend habeas corpus, which grants individuals the right to due process and to present their defense before a judge.

House Bill 1200 met its untimely demise less than a week after the Pennsylvania House passed its first adult-use cannabis bill. Senate Republicans oppose selling recreational cannabis in state-owned stores and shot the bill down in a committee vote.
Democrats in the Pennsylvania House passed a historic recreational cannabis legalization bill this week by a 102-101 party line vote.
However, House Bill 1200 faces long odds in the Republican-controlled Pennsylvania Senate.
HB 1200 legalizes recreational cannabis use for adults over the age of 21 and it allows for the substance to be sold in state-owned stores.
The bill contains some public safety measures by placing a 25% limit on THC concentration sold in flower products, and limits the THC concentration to five milligrams per serving and 25 milligrams per package.
HB 1200 allows residents to grow two up to plants at a time in their homes.
This week’s vote marked the first time the state House has ever passed a cannabis legalization bill.
