Your Zodiac sign can help you choose the Pittsburgh activities that are perfect for you.
If you’re looking for something to do in Pittsburgh, you might look for inspiration by turning to your astrological sign, which is said to give insight into your personality. We’ve put together suggestions for Steel City activities for each of the 12 signs of the Zodiac. We’re not promising an accurate horoscope — just a great day on the town.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Bold and energetic Aries loves a challenge, so you might best enjoy Pittsburgh activities where you can show off your competitive side. Beat your best friends at Arsenal Bowl in Lawrenceville, an old-school bowling alley with a full bar and DJs — perfect for a night out and a night of strikes! You might also enjoy the retro games at downtown Pittsburgh’s Barcadia, an arcade for adults. Aries is also always down for an adventure, so you might also choose to plan a city hike around the Three Rivers Heritage Trail so you can explore all three rivers of Pittsburgh.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Grounded and reliable Taurus may be down to earth, but also always enjoys a touch of the finer things in life — or at least, small comforts that soothe and inspire. Bulls might love a visit to a nice restaurant, especially if it has a beautiful atmosphere and if its popularity requires infrequent visits. Both Pusadee’s Garden in Lawrenceville and Apteka in Garfield serve delicious, upscale cuisine, and both also have lovely outdoor spaces that Taureans would admire. After dinner, walk around Lawrenceville and visit shops like City Grows so a Taurus can decorate their home with greenery and Mix Candle Co. so a Taurus can create a customized candle for their space.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Social Gemini is likely to be happy so long as they’re surrounded by friends and good conversation! (After all, they are represented by the twins; two is always better than one.) You might want to rent a karaoke room like Hi Sound Karaoke in Squirrel Hill, where you and your friends can sing and chat for hours. Plus, Hi Sound has a full bar. But Gemini also likes to be part of a crowd, so consider visiting a comedy club like Arcade Comedy Theater or your favorite bar’s open mic night, where you and your friends can engage with the entertainment and the rest of the audience!
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Cancer, the crab, embodies the emotional and sensitive traits of water signs. They also love being around nature and water. And luckily, Pittsburgh is home to three rivers! Visit Point State Park to revel in the sight of the natural waters at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers. Besides enjoying the rivers, Cancers can relax with friends during the summer at any of the city’s affordable public pools. Be sure to bring a blanket to lounge on the grass.
Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)
Leo loves the limelight, so the best activities in Pittsburgh for lions will likely be anywhere they can embrace their dramatic sides. And Pittsburgh has a roaring performing arts scene. We recommend attending interactive shows where Leos can be part of the story. The Dinner Detective puts on mystery dinner theater shows in Pittsburgh where the actors are disguised within the audience and guests can become stars of the show. Leos might also want to go to a Story Club Pittsburgh show, where featured storytellers unwind engaging and often hilarious stories. Plus, the shows have open mic opportunities for audience members to get up and spin their own tales.
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)
Detail-oriented and organized, Virgos like using their minds and learning. The curated collections of the Carnegie Museums offer opportunities to learn about the natural world, see dinosaur bones up close, and view artistic masterpieces. Admission to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History includes admission to the Carnegie Museum of Art, so Virgos won’t have to choose between the scientific and the creative! Plus, the museums often host events specifically for adults, like trivia nights or programs with bars.
Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)
Libras are on a perpetual search for balance — in life, love, and their activities — so why not continue the quest with friends in the city? As seekers of symmetry, Libras may enjoy the floral art at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, where nature inspires art in regular flower shows. They may also admire the contemporary art found at the Mattress Factory on Pittsburgh’s North Side. And for Libras who want to use their hands, Phipps Conservatory offers a number of programs for adults, including classes on botanical crafts like paper making as well as floral design.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)
Scorpio is complex and enigmatic, and a great day out for a Scorpio will be just as strange and mysterious. Pittsburgh is actually home to several weird museums that may fit a Scorpio’s vibe. For instance, Pittsburgh’s Center for PostNatural History explores the ways that nature has been modified by humans. One PostNatural exhibition features Freckles, one of the first bioengineered goats. Trundle Manor is a bizarre Swissvale art museum that features vintage taxidermy items as well as weird things preserved in jars. After a museum visit, visit a moody bar like one of Pittsburgh’s speakeasies. The Speakeasy in the Omni William Penn Hotel is in a space that actually operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)
Sagittarius loves to explore, so set yourself on a journey to explore Pittsburgh. Take a trip on the Gateway Clipper, a riverboat that travels Pittsburgh’s rivers. It also has narration and a cash bar. Some tours also include dinner! You can continue to sate the wanderlust by engaging with some of the different cultures that make up Pittsburgh. You can visit yearly festivals like the several Greek festivals in the area or PolishFest, which explores Polish as well as Lithuanian and Carpatho-Rusyn cultures.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)
Hard-working Capricorns might want to mix a hangout with a workout. That’s why these goats (or G.O.A.T.s) may love to visit a climbing gym with friends, whether they’re bouldering together or working together by top-rope belaying. One Pittsburgh climbing gym, ASCEND, has locations in both the South Side and Point Breeze. Capricorns may also want to challenge themselves by teaming up for a trivia night at their favorite bar. Luckily, trivia nights abound in Pittsburgh! Some possibilities include East End Brewing on Thursdays and Millvale’s Strange Roots Experimental Ales on Wednesday nights.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)
Aquarius loves to try new things, especially if it’s making the world a better place. And Pittsburgh always has something new going on. Water Bearers may enjoy attending some of the programs at City of Asylum, a local organization that supports writers from around the world who are living in exile. While City of Asylum often hosts events with writers, it also celebrates International Jazz Poetry Month each May with a festival. In fact, you may love any outdoor festival in Pittsburgh, from the popular Northside Music Festival to Picklesburgh, a festival dedicated to the humble pickle where you can try anything from pickle beer to a pickle juice drinking contest.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Pisces are imaginative, artistic souls who love to explore their inner worlds — and the inner worlds of others. The Andy Warhol Museum — the largest museum devoted to a single artist in North America — is an excellent way for this sign to connect with the story and art of Andy Warhol, who was born in Pittsburgh. In addition, a Pittsburgh Pisces may enjoy taking art classes with friends, such as the courses offered through the Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media, which has classes covering ceramics, writing, drawing, painting, and more.
