If you feel the urge to deep clean your entire house and purge all of the excess clutter, you might be trying to find where to donate your used household items. We’ve done the hard work for you by compiling a list of organizations around Pennsylvania to donate clothes, shoes, and household items.
1. Cradles to Crayons – Philadelphia
Cradles to Crayons offers essential items to children living in poverty, ensuring they have what they need to thrive. The organization accepts a wide range of donations (preferably like new!) for children ranging from newborn up through age 12. As you’re cleaning out your home and perhaps finding children’s items to donate, be sure to see if they’ll fit the needs at Cradles to Crayons.
What They Accept: New or like-new children’s clothing, socks, underwear, coats, shoes; books, arts and crafts, and school supplies. Read the full list here.
2. City Mission – Multiple Locations
City Mission Thrift Stores’ proceeds help provide shelter, food, and support to those experiencing homelessness. By accepting donations from those decluttering their homes, they can send the proceeds from the thrift store to help City Mission residents. There are multiple City Mission locations across Washington, Fayette, Greene, and Westmoreland Counties, and they accept donations Monday-Saturday.
What They Accept: Clothing, Craft Supplies, Electronics, Furniture, Homegoods, Shoes, Small Appliances, and more.
3. Dress for Success – Pittsburgh
Dress for Success empowers women entering the workforce by providing them with professional clothing. The organization also offers networking support and developmental tools to help women thrive at work. By donating your gently used women’s professional attire to Dress for Success, you’re helping women in their search for financial independence and autonomy.
What They Accept: Women’s professional clothing and shoes; jewelry; handbags and briefcases
4. Mitzvah Circle – Lansdale
Mitzvah Circle is a nonprofit that distributes items to individuals and families facing crisis situations such as homelessness or medical emergencies. The organization provides basic goods, case management, and coaching to those in need as well providing goods to those who cannot afford to buy them.
What They Accept: For a full list of acceptable items, please visit their wishlist. Mitzvah Circle only accepts new items for some products.
5. Free Store 15104 – Braddock
Free Store 15104 offers free goods to individuals and families in need, and one of their main focuses is promoting sustainable practices and generosity throughout the community. If you’re passionate about encouraging recycling and reuse and offering free items to those in need, Free Store 15104 might be the perfect place to send your gently used items to.
What They Accept: Free Store 15104 accepts most items, except for furniture and electronics. They regularly need formula, diapers, and household items.
