The United Nations first established the International Day of Peace in 1981, and it has since become a staple holiday in many communities around Pennsylvania.
The theme for this year’s Day of Peace is: “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”, but with the growing tension surrounding the Iran War, peace cannot be taken for granted.
Many Pennsylvanians have felt the strain of the war in Iran, as gas prices, groceries, and the cost of living skyrocket as a result.
What’s even more disheartening are President Trump’s recent comments on the war, as he called the conflict “small potatoes” and downplayed the severity of this global strife.
As we prepare to celebrate the International Day of Peace, it’s important to remember the power we have as the American people. This year’s theme amplifies this sentiment, as the significance of everyday people driving local action becomes the centerpiece of this year’s celebrations.
