On April 22, the Pocono Township Board of Commissioners unanimously approved adding a data center overlay district to the townshipโ€™s zoning ordinance.

Half of the properties are occupied by an active business or abandoned resort, and a large warehouse has been approved for another.

The following six properties are part of the new data center overlay district, where data centers are permitted by conditional use.

According to Monroe County property records, these six properties are in a small part of the township near the intersection of Warner Road and Route 715, between Interstate 80 to the east and Northampton Community College to the west.

  • A 39.39-acre plot of land on the north side of Route 715 and east of Ann Lane. The property is currently owned by Anthony M. Farda, Trustee and has no business on it.
  • A 42.24-acre plot of land south of Route 715, and west of the Pocono Medical Center property. It is currently owned by Farda Reality Associates LP and has no active business on it. However, the property is the site of Summit Resort, one of the Poconos’ many now-defunct honeymoon destinations.
  • A 39.71-acre plot of land south of Route 715 and west of I-80. It is predominantly south of Pocono West Way, with a small area north of Pocono West Way. The property is currently owned by Pocono Medical Center and has no businesses on it.
  • A 86.68-acre plot of land south of Warner Road, east of Tumbleweed Drive and west of Kevin’s Lane and I-80. The property is currently owned by Core5 at Stroudsburg LLC and is the site of what will be the 702,000-square-foot Core5 warehouse.
  • A 39.87-acre plot of land east of Route 715, north of Warner Road, and southeast of the old resort property. It is currently owned by PP&L Co. and is the site of a PPL Electric Utilities office.
  • A 67.68-acre plot of land southeast of Route 715. Its north corner is at the intersection with Warner Road; it is otherwise separated from Warner Road by the Pocono Elementary Center property. The parcel is currently owned by Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. and used as one of the company’s service centers.
