Putting billionaires and business owners on blast, thousands of Philadelphia-area workers and union members marched through Center City on Friday to celebrate May Day

May Day, or International Workers Day, is a day of solidarity for working people and especially for working people who are immigrants and migrants,” Philadelphia AFL-CIO President Daniel Bauder said in an interview.

He added: “The disparity between working people and those who are at the very top 1% grows wider and wider. With the administration in Washington and what Trump’s done through his big beautiful bullshit bill, is strip away from working people the benefits and programs that help them make ends meet.”

During Friday’s rally, union leaders and advocates laid out their vision for working Philadelphians over the next 250 years, which included fully funding public education, unions for all, making healthcare a human right, and more.

They then proceeded to march throughout Center City, making multiple stops along their route.

Marchers stopped at Jefferson Magee Rehabilitation, where nurses with the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP) are currently in a contract fight, and then went to the Sheraton Hotel, where UNITE HERE Local 274 members have been working without a contract, and then finished their march outside of the Comcast Center.

According to a report by the Philadelphia AFL-CIO and Teamsters Local 623, Comcast spent close to $13 million on lobbying efforts in 2025, and some of that money was spent advocating for the passage of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
