Tuesday’s primary elections went fairly smoothly across the commonwealth—if you don’t count the explosive device tossed from a vehicle near a polling location in Lehigh County. Nearly 1 million registered voters requested mail ballots for this primary election, and about 77% had been returned by last night’s 8 p.m. deadline. Nice work, fellow voters.
Here’s a quick look at some of the biggest results from Tuesday’s primary elections:
Pa.’s 1st Congressional District: Bucks County commissioner and former high school social studies teacher Bob Harvie won the Democratic primary over first-time candidate Lucia Simonelli and will now face Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in November.
Pa.’s 7th Congressional District: In what’s expected to be one of the most competitive House races in the country this fall, Bob Brooks, a retired 20-year firefighter and union leader, will take on Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie .
Pa.’s 10th Congressional District: Former WGAL anchor Janelle Stelson‘s victory sets up a rematch against Rep. Scott Perry; she narrowly lost to the Republican incumbent in 2024.
Governor’s race: No surprises here—both candidates ran uncontested—but Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who’s backed by President Donald Trump, will challenge Gov. Josh Shapiro this fall.
Next up? The general election is Nov. 3.
