Authorities captured Cavalcante in the woods Wednesday morning, bringing relief to anxious residents who had endured sleepless nights as he hid in the woods, broke into homes, changed his appearance, and fled under gunfire with a rifle pilfered from a garage.
State police announced Cavalcante’s capture on social media around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, as the search entered its 14th day. A news conference announcing details is planned for 9:30 a.m.
